The Humanos Institute (Humanos) is partnering with Global Brigades to bring a group of 12 volunteers to Nicaragua, where the team will be co-creating, along with the local community, a financial literacy program through the use of Design Thinking.

The goal of this project is to develop a financial literacy program which follows the core principles of human-centered design, setting the community’s needs and interest as the main priority. In turn a financial literacy program that ensures high adoption amongst the community members will be developed and then scaled throughout different communities in Nicaragua, Honduras and other countries throughout Latin America, impacting thousands of people.

This program will take volunteers through a rigorous Design Thinking training that will cover the core principles as well as some more advanced techniques. A hands-on approach will be the norm. Every day the team of volunteers will be introduced to new Design Thinking concepts that will later that day be applied in the community. The full Design Thinking process of Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test will be implemented this way. The volunteers will return home knowing that their efforts will transform the lives of some of the poorest people in the planet as well as with a new set of Design Thinking skills that can be applied across a wide range of projects, in a personal or professional environment.
