Medical Brigades at Ball State University

Ball State University is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. Each community receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are provided access to healthcare and volunteers deliver public health workshops. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends. nnIn conjunction with our Medical Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with economic development, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring. Small Group Medical Brigades July 2015 Panama

GB Panama will bring small groups of 5-7 volunteers to work alongside our full-time technicians and gain on-the-ground experience in the areas of medical and dental care. GB alumni, aspiring GB leaders looking to start a chapter, or small groups of volunteers seeking more in-depth exposure to global health will shadow local health professionals as they provide consultations and medications to patients in rural Panamanian communities. Volunteers assist with in-take, triage, medication packing, and health education.

Panama 2015 Small-Group Brigades

Global Brigades USA is the world's largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. Our mission is to empower volunteers and under-resourced communities to resolve global health and economic disparities and inspire all involved to collaboratively work towards an equal world.
