I am currently a 4th year Life Science student at McMaster University! I have always had a great interest in psychology as well as health care as a whole. I hope to one day work in the healthcare industry as well as do whatever I can along the way to provide basic health care to those around the world most in need. I am a huge advocate for human rights, something I have pursued through my involvement in Amnesty International and nothing is more important to me then family and those I care about!

McMaster Medical Brigades to Panama 2012

Simrran's Message

As VP of Medicine for McMaster's Global Brigade, it is my responsibility to help organize the medicine subcomittee to ensure we collect the abundance of medication, vitamins, recrcruit physicians and dentists, as well as raise any extra funds neccessary to cover the cost of our medicine/dental station. Making this wonderful initiative a complete success is my ultimate goal and it would mean the world to me if you all could help make it happen!

Volunteer Activity Description

Medical Brigade volunteers set up medical clinics in pre-identified communities to provide healthcare where access is limited. Each community receives a brigade every 3-4 months and between brigades the in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and conducts community health worker trainings to empower local leaders to perpetuate a consistent level of healthcare.
Dental Brigade volunteers provide urgent and preventive dental services in communities with limited access to healthcare. Each of our community partners receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are treated with fillings, cleanings and extractions, and are given dental hygiene workshops.
