I am passionate about global health and learning from different cultures in and outside of my community.
Through Volunteers Around the World, I look forward in contributing to an initiative that advocates for those in vulnerable communities abroad, bringing attention to the people in these parts of the world that do not have the access to the educational and medical resources we have the privilege of getting. This does not however in anyway devalue the imperative for medical assistance in communities around the United States as we recognize that disparities in the health care system are ubiquitous.
In addition to medical outreach abroad, VAW at UCSC extends its efforts into the local health care systems here in Santa Cruz. The goal is then to create both a local and global perspective that allows for a more comprehensive look into the health cares system in different communities around the world.

Volunteer Activity Message

Join the UCSC chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to Vietnam this upcoming Summer! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!
VAW at UCSC will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Vietnam.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2017, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2018. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of 28-31 May
