Ever since I was a kid I've always wanted to help people, as cliche as it sounds. I knew that I just wanted to travel the world and help as many people as I could. I've seen the struggles of those in poverty who did not have access to proper medical care, and I've seen how that affects families, mentally, leaving them to wonder "what if we had more help?". Seeing how strongly the "what if's" can affect someone made me realize that I want to help people. Being there for those who need medical care, so they will never have to wonder if they can get the help needed, to save a loved one would mean the world to me. Going on this Peru trip will be my first step as an adult, to be able to travel and help people which means everything to me.

Join the VAW Virginia chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to Peru this upcoming Summer! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! VAW at Virginia will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2019, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2020. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
