Upcoming Initiatives

All Lights Village Pencil Drive

On MLK Day, students from Meadowdale High School, Kamiak High School and Shorewood High School will gather at Meadowdale from 1-4pm to assemble care packages for the children in the Philippines. The students will be doing multiple activities to put these care packages together, including: • Decorating pencil cases • Writing cards • Making bracelets • Putting the donated writing utensils, cards, and bracelets into the pencil cases On MLK Day, students will also be making signs with the quotes and acts of kindness for the 40 Days of Peace. Each day, students who practice the day’s quote and act of kindness will be entered into a raffle to win a 40 Days of Peace t-shirt.

Friendship House of Christian Service

As part of the rich heritage of MLK Jr., we are participating in this MLK Jr. National Day of Service. Light cleaning, shelf construction, floor preparation of gym and some outdoor work (weather permitting) will take place. Please come in your work clothes and bring gloves.

Butler Street Community Development Corporation

This project will be broken down into four types of projects throughout the day beautification, awareness, service, and celebration. We will focus all of our efforts on beautifying the Butler Street Community Development Corporation and the surrounding campus area. Most of these jobs will be held outside so please notify volunteers to bundle up. We will ask ALL volunteers to participant in our charity drive throughout the day where we will be collecting donations for those less fortunate in our community. We will have our volunteers prepare these items so that people who are in need can come and receive as needed. We will give everyone who donates a ticket into the day party scheduled for later during the day.

La Represa Book Drive

Meadowdale High School senior, Hyangsahm Lee, is doing a book drive at Meadowdale Elementary School to collect books to send to La Represa, Dominican Republic. This is an initiative to support the residents of La Represa in building a new library. This book drive will launch on MLK Day, and the elementary school students and their families will donate books in English and Spanish for that week. That week, the elementary school will be educating their students on the theme, “With my own two hands,” teaching that like Dr. Martin Luther King, we all have the ability to help others with our own two hands, including donating books to children in La Represa.
