Hi, I'm Lauren! I am a second year, pre-med student studying Biological Sciences at the University of Georgia. During the summer of 2021, I traveled to San Pedro La Laguna, Guatemala with VAW Global. While in Guatemala, I volunteered in mobile clinics to help provide medical care to people in need. Having this experience during a global pandemic and getting to witness first hand the need for care in these areas motivated me to become more involved in the organization. This year, I will be leading a team of 50 people to travel to Cusco, Peru to provide access to medical care in the communities there. The total cost of my trip will be $1995 + airfare. Join the University of Georgia chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship to Guatemala this upcoming Winter! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW Global at University of Georgia will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Guatemala.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2019, VAW Global treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2022! One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
