Aaron's Message

People often ask me, what do I want to do with my life? Not what my parents want or what society wants, but what do I want to do? Well, my answer is simple yet complex: "I want to help people." When responded with the point that I don't need to be a doctor in order to help others, I reply, “Yes, but that is what I was placed on this Earth for.” I was given many gifts, tools and talents; all of which I have experienced and all of which I continue to grow on. Whether I am involved with volunteering, sports, music, film, or jobs; they all have one common denominator: helping. I am usually the first to volunteer and I am always willing to volunteer my time, talents, and efforts to help others. So when people ask me why I do so many things and tell me to choose one thing and stick with it, I tell them: “I have already chosen.” I help others because I was given the gift of having a big heart and being compassionate toward others. That, I have always known. But I now realize my potential and goal in life and what it will take. All the things that I do influence and help me with what I want to do with my life, and that is to become an amazing primary care doctor. In the future, I hope to practice in underserved communities and take time to go on medical missions such as this, and Project Angkor’s or Cambodian Health Professionals Association of America's annual medical mission.

Volunteer Activity Description

Volunteers on the Medical and Dental Brigades will be working closely together to provide quality health initiatives to a community that otherwise has limited access to health care. Volunteers will spend three days in a community in order to optimize the amount of time patients are able to spend with the physicians and dentists. Each patient will receive a physician consultation, teeth cleaning and a fluoride treatment as well as have access to pap smears, prostate exams and restorative dental care as necessary. Volunteers will have the opportunity to take patient vitals, obtain patient history and current symptoms, shadow and assist licensed physicians and dentists, participate in preventative education, and fill prescriptions under a licensed pharmacist. Volunteers will become familiar with the prevalent health issues in their community and learn about how to prevent and treat those illnesses. These brigades provide each volunteer with the opportunity to make a tangible impact on a specific community while gaining real life experience in the field of international medicine and dentistry.
