What I’ll Be Doing:
I am going on a mission trip with One World Surgery in April…this organization provides free surgery and primary clinics for people without access to care in Honduras and Dominican Republic. These services are supported by the $1,000 donation fee required to volunteer on this trip. I am also hoping to raise enough to cover my flight fees. I appreciate any help whatsoever. Thank you! I describe why this is important to me below, but please let the organization do the convincing. Please see the following link for patient stories:

My job as a surgical scrub tech is to setup the surgical field, equipment, and assist the surgeon during the case. I am looking to raise enough money to cover the $1,000 program fee and for my flight. Airline ticket prices fluctuate and right now it is approximately $650 round trip. My goal is to raise at least $1500. I have put $300 toward the program fee myself so far, and plan on picking up extra, regular weekly hours to contribute to my own fundraising as well. Every little bit counts, and I appreciate anything. I will need to reach this goal by mid-late March, for the trip at the end of April.

Why I Want To Do It:
I have no prior experience in volunteering this way. I can't imagine the impact these services will have on patient lives and how it will ultimately make me feel to have been involved. I do however know why I personally am determined to do this now. I have wanted to do something like this since I was 18 but didn’t really have my act together enough to accomplish it in my twenties. I feel rather uncomfortable putting myself out there to ask for money, particularly to complete a very personal “mission” of mine, so to speak. I did not anticipate volunteering abroad for the first time as a brand new mom. Finding the resources to travel and leaving my family for a week are ideas I struggled to accept at first. However, becoming a mom has made me want to do things that are important to me even more. I want to show my son that there are healthy, important, worth while things in this world to do and be a part of. I love the family-oriented aspect of One World Surgery and hope to continue with this organization and maybe even bring my son along in the future as some of my colleagues have done. The training and experience two years as a surgical tech has given me is another reason now is a great time to go. I have earned a real skill that can be used to help people in a significant way. Working at Condell has given me experience across many specialties including eyes, orthopedics, gynecology, general, reconstructive, and urology. I am so excited to flexibly put these skills to use for people who can't afford these services without volunteers wanting to get involved. Thank you so much for your time and consideration!
