Fundraising Campaign Description

End Date: Mar 31, 2016 11:00 PM

Alvis is a young man with down syndrome who lives in Nueva Arenosa with his elderly parents. His many siblings sometimes live at home but the three are the only permanent residents of the house. The residence is made of cement blocks, and has a cement floor. The roof, made of tin, causes a stifling heat during the day. The house has one main room with two beds- one full bed where the parents sleep and and twin hospital bed where Alvis sleeps. The mattress on both beds are old and extremely worn. In the case of Alvis, the mattress is not properly sized for the bed. There is a second room to the house that was planned to be used as Alvis' bedroom, but construction of this room was not finished, and Alvis prefers to sleep close to his parents anyway. Water does reach the house (to an outside spigot), but not consistently. The lack of water poses a serious health risk. The house has electricity.

Needs (prices are approximations based on initial quotes):
Hospital bed mattress for Alvis & fan (including transport) - $500
Reserve water tank (291 gal) and pipes - $300
Replace parents' bed (frame & mattress)- $200
