This January I will be using my medical skills to serve in Nicaragua with the Marquette University Global Brigades chapter. Global Brigades mission is to "empower volunteers and under-resourced communities to resolve global health and economic disparities and inspire all involved to collaboratively work towards an equal world." They are the largest, student-led, nonprofit health and sustainable development organization. Participating student and professional volunteers empower communities in developing countries with sustainable solutions that improve quality of life and environment, while respecting local culture.

I will be traveling with health professional students, medical and dental professionals, pharmacists and staff to provide primary health care to rural communities. The group functions as a mobile medical unit, diagnosing and treating patients at no cost. Approximately 300-400 patients are treated a day.
