Passionate About:

If there is one thing Nicaragua 2015 taught me it is this: "everyone smiles and laughs in the same language". I am passionate about medicine and helping others but more than anything else I am passionate about happiness, both experiencing it and sharing it. Cannot express how excited I am for Honduras 2016! Thank you for your support.

Currently studying to become a Physician Assistant at Philadelphia University!

Philadelphia University Medical Brigades Honduras May 2016

Amanda's Message

Last year, my experience in Nicaragua was beyond life-changing. I had originally thought GMB would be an event I did for one year as a cool experience and way to interact with patients. I was so wrong. Global Medical Brigades is an outstanding organization and my trip to Nicaragua taught me so much more than just medical things. From speaking Spanish, to exploring a new culture, to living in imperfect conditions, to getting to meet incredible happy children it was an all around amazing time. While there were struggles during the experience, there was never a time I wanted to go home and, throughout the whole brigade, I kept thinking about how badly I wanted to participate next year. Well, next year is here and I am looking forward to helping more communities and more people in a new place, Honduras. I hope that you can both help and support me on this next journey! I am so grateful for any support or contribution you can make. Thank you so much.

Volunteer Activity Description

Global Brigades offers 7-9 day Medical Brigades throughout the year in Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua. During a Medical Brigade, volunteers have the opportunity to take vitals and patient history in triage, shadow licensed doctors in medical consultations, and assist in a pharmacy under the direction of licensed pharmacists. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade approximately twice a year. Between brigades, our in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and to conduct Community Health Worker (CHW) trainings to empower local leaders to sustain a consistent level of healthcare. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends.
