Mercy PA Medical Brigade May 2014 Nicarauga

Anastasiya's Message

Dear Friends,

As a PA student at Mercy College, I am fortunate enough to be attending one of the few PA programs in the area which provides its students an amazing opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the underserved people overseas. This year, my fellow classmates and I, led by the Mercy PA faculty and their PA colleagues, are embarking on a trip to Ghana, Africa, where we will be providing medical care and medications to thousands of patients who desperately need it. Although we are very fortunate to have the support from our school, we cannot do this without your help. Please, consider contributing with a donation of any amount. The money will go towards our travel expenses, as well as the medications and supplies that we will be carrying in our suitcases. No donation is too small - $5-10 make a difference. I thank you all in advance for your support and generosity.

Volunteer Activity Description

Global Medical and Dental Brigades in Ghana work alongside each other on a 10-day long brigade in under-resourced communities around the central region of Ghana. Each medical and dental brigade incorporates a public health portion at the end of the 4 clinical days. The 10-day medical and public health brigade provides volunteers with the opportunity to make a tangible impact on communities while gaining hands-on experience in the field of international medicine. Prior to travel, volunteers collect medicines, recruit health professionals and fundraise. Once in Ghana, the team will visit one partner community to administer a 4 day-long clinic and conduct health workshops. During clinical days, community members are able to consult doctors and dentists, fill any necessary prescriptions, receive necessary dental care, and sit-in on health education lectures.
