Passionate About:

I am truly passionate about helping others and am excited to have the opportunity to do so on a global scale. As a Managerial Economics major, I have learned that all people are tied together, and that the well being of one land is interconnected to the security of another. Although the United States is a fruitful, prosperous country, not all other countries are as fortunate, including Nicaragua. Although breathtakingly beautiful, Nicaragua is the least developed country in Central America, and one of the poorest places in the Americas overall. I believe that being exposed to this new cultural environment is both academically and personally fufilling
Travelling to Nicaragua would mean exposing myself to a polar opposite cultural perspective from which I was raised. Though it, I will learn what health, well being, and prosperity truly mean from an entirely new outlook.

UC Davis Nicaragua Spring Break 2016

Volunteer Activity Description

Come join us in our efforts in Nicaragua this coming Spring Break! GSEs Nicaragua program focuses on sustainable agriculture practices in Chacraseca. The goal of our projects is to create and maintain biointensive gardens that produce healthy food for young students at all 13 schools in Chacraseca. Each year students work in collaboration with Nicaraguan leaders and students on projects such as creating garden beds, building a greenhouse, or setting up irrigation.

Traveling with GSE means working alongside our Nicaraguan peers, hiking up a volcano through the mist of Lake Nicaragua, and visiting beautiful colonial Leon, a center of culture and history with many beautiful murals and cathedrals. Students experience Nicaragua through discussions about the countries social and environmental history. GSE Nicaragua staff and students welcome groups to their community and share their experience working on their school farms. Participants sample delicious local cuisine served at family farms, at local restaurants, as well as meals specially prepared for us and brought to our hostel.
