Passionate About:

I am currently a full time undergraduate student at Temple University studying Sociology. In May 2015, I plan to volunteer abroad in Honduras for 10 days with Global Brigades. Global Brigades is the largest student led nonprofit health and sustainable development organization. The Temple University brigade that I am apart of is doing a hybrid program. We will be constructing a clean water system for the rural communities of Honduras. We will be digging trenches, connecting pipes, installing in-home water faucets, as well as providing education about clean health practices such as washing hands regularly. The other part of the hybrid program is public health with the end goal in mind to help prevent family illnesses. We will empower the rural communities to prevent common illnesses through in-home facility development, community leader training, and health education.

I love to travel and help others. Global Brigades gives me the opportunity to do both! However, doing awesome stuff is expensive! Through this website, working part time, and other fundraising opportunities I plan to raise $1,800 to fund this trip. Help me complete this goal of mine and help improve the lives of those in need by donating today. Even a $1 helps! Thank you!

Volunteer Activity Message

Global Brigades offers 10-day Water/Public Health Hybrid Brigades throughout the year in Honduras. Water Brigades' mission is to empower communities to access sufficient clean water through infrastructural development, water treatment, community leader training and education. Water Brigades volunteers assist in implementing clean water systems to prevent water-related illnesses in communities with limited access to clean water. One of the fundamental roadblocks to community development is lack of clean water. With a sufficient quantity of properly treated water, community members can cut off the connection between water and illness and ultimately live healthier, more productive lives. Volunteers work side-by-side with community members as well as with our in-country project technicians in all aspects of the water system's construction while learning about its design, functionality, and long-term sustainability. On Public Health Brigades, volunteers develop sustainable health solutions and establish a standard of health quality by emphasizing prevention and education. The Public Health Program achieves this goal by implementing in-home infrastructure projects, providing health education, and engaging community members. Each Public Health Brigade will work with individual families, local schools, and community leaders with a focus on holistic and preventative health measures on both an individual and community-wide scale.
