California State University East Bay Medical Outreach Trip to Peru, July/August 2022

Brittany's Message

In 2020, the COVID-19 Pandemic changed the world as we knew it. Many of us have lost friends, family, loved one, jobs, and more. Yet, here we are, 2 years later, as resilient as ever.

The pandemic changed the course of my professional goals. I’d like to think they’ve just been delayed, not permanently pushed off. As many of you know, 2020 was my graduating year, the year I was set to apply to graduate school, and go to this highly esteemed Medical internship in Peru. Although I managed to press toward the finish line and earn my B.S. amid the rising heat of the pandemic, I didn’t manage to get accepted into graduate school on the first try, and my internship was postponed.

Thankfully, I have been given a second chance. The Peru Medical Internship many of you have already invested in is back up and running. This experience will give me a more competitive edge into my graduate program of choice. So, I am asking to rely on your contributions, once more, to get me closer to the fundraising goal and closer to my dreams.
The past 2 years have taken many things, but it hasn’t managed to take away God’s plan for my professional future, nor my ambition.

If you can’t donate, spreading the word would be a blessing within itself.

With Gratitude

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the CSU East Bay chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship to Peru this upcoming summer! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW Global at CSU East Bay will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2019, VAW Global treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2020. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of March 21 - April 3.
