Passionate About:

Hi yall,

This is my third time going on a brigade and I'm going for all the same reasons I went the previous two years. I am passionate about healthcare, kids, and helping people in any way I can. I truly believe that by helping others, doesn't matter who, where, or when, that we are ultimately helping ourselves. Personally, I want to live in a world where everyone has access to healthcare and lives in a dignified home with access to clean water and healthy food. By being a part of this hybrid medical and public health brigade I hope that we can empower the Honduran communities we go to and work side by side with them to move in that direction. After going last year on the trip as the Education Chair I grew to better understand the mission of Global Brigades and my passion for service work only grew. This year I am on of the Co-presidents of the Brigade and am really excited to improve the brigade and work towards the most ethical and sustainable volunteering trip possible. I know that this trip is a great way to help others and to meet and learn from interesting people from all walks of life. I am extremely appreciative of any donation you can provide, be it money or medications, to help support my trip. If you are interested in learning more about Global Brigades and the trip send me an email at averindennis@gmail.com and I'd be happy to tell you all about it!

Thank you and g-d bless,

Dennis Averin

Brandeis University Medical Brigade February 2017

Volunteer Activity Description

Global Brigades offers 7-9 day Medical Brigades throughout the year in Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua. During a Medical Brigade, volunteers have the opportunity to take vitals and patient history in triage, shadow licensed doctors in medical consultations, and assist in a pharmacy under the direction of licensed pharmacists. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade approximately twice a year. Between brigades, our in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and to conduct Community Health Worker (CHW) trainings to empower local leaders to sustain a consistent level of healthcare. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends.
