When I woke up this morning, I had two glasses of water. I walked 20 steps, 10 feet, from the bed to my kitchen sink to drink nearly 4 cups of water in 2 minutes. Somewhere else in the world, at the same time, another child woke up as well and went to go drink water. The difference between my story and the other child’s story is that I walked 20 steps to access clean water however, the other child, residing in an underdeveloped country, may have walked perhaps 200 steps, or 100 feet, or possibly even farther, simply to drink unfiltered and dirty water.
I want to travel to Honduras with the UIC Water Brigade because I believe that it’s every human’s basic right to have access to clean water with little struggle. With this water brigade I believe I can be a helping hand to those in need and secure the futures of the generations that are yet to come. Alongside these thoughts, I feel it is imperative to educate them about good hygiene to prevent further illnesses. I hope to serve the community with compassion, respect, and love in hopes to create a more prosperous lifestyle
