University of Redlands Medical Internship to Panama, June 2025

Emily's Message

My name is Emily Hernandez, and I am a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Redlands, majoring in Biology with a minor in Spanish. I am reaching out to request your support for an exciting opportunity that will allow me to deepen my knowledge in the medical field while making a meaningful impact on underserved communities.

I am currently involved with VAW, an organization that provides medical services to low-income communities around the world. This year, I have the privilege of participating in a medical internship in Panama, where we will offer healthcare to individuals who have limited or no access to medical care. During this internship, I will have the chance to gain hands-on experience by taking vital signs, assisting in the pharmacy, and shadowing local doctors.

My goal is to build upon this experience to pursue a graduate degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, where I hope to continue helping patients lead healthier lives. This internship is a crucial step in developing the skills and knowledge I need to make a difference in the lives of others.

I would be incredibly grateful for your support in making this opportunity a reality. Your generosity will allow me to contribute to the wellbeing of those in need while advancing my career in the healthcare field.

Thank you for considering my request. Together, we can help those who need it most

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the University of Redlands chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship in Panama this upcoming Summer! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW Global at the University of Redlands will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Panama.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2023, VAW Global treated over 17,500 patients and we aspire to treat over 20,000 in 2024! One of the things that makes our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
