Global Brigades Legal Empowerment

Global Brigades Events is a chapter of Global Legal Empowerment Brigades, an international movement of students and attorneys providing legal education and financial resources for vulnerable families to resolve legal challenges. We focus our work with women in remote, rural, and under resourced communities who would otherwise have limited to no access to legal resources. Volunteers facilitate legal clinics with lawyers to provide pro-bono consulting and the financial resources for community members to help resolve cases. nnIn conjunction with our Legal Empowerment Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, economic development, clean water and sanitation projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring. Global Brigades Sustainable Donations

Global Brigades is the world’s largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. Since 2004, Global Brigades has mobilized thousands of university students and professionals through nine skill-based programs that work in partnership with community members to improve quality of life in under resourced regions while respecting local culture. It is our ultimate goal to work with local communities to build foundations so strong that we can leave these rural villages with sustainable programs that will help improve their lives. Throughout the year we send almost 10,000 students abroad to volunteer, listen and learn from our indigenous staff and community members. Through the process we are able to empower over 300,000 individuals living in rural Central America and West Africa with access to: Microfinance Sustainable medicine Public Health infrastructure Clean water and much more... For every $100 we raise we can double the impact of a students contribution to our communities. Please give today and help grow the Sustainable Exit Fund which will allow us to not only build stronger foundations of health and security in our current communities but to move on and scale our sustainable solutions to many more.

Global Impact Initiative UNC Chapel Hill

Business Brigades volunteers work with community bank loan officers to consult potential borrowers on improving financial sustainability through a 8 day Business Brigade in Panama or 10 day brigade in Ghana. Student volunteers can either join an existing Business Brigades chapter on their campus or create their own chapter and recruit other volunteers. Volunteers provide rural communities with the educational, financial, and organizational resources necessary to sustainably drive their own economic development. The business brigade volunteers serve as a catalyst to loan borrowers, providing consulting methodologies, financial workshops and donating a “capital investment” to the community bank to back the loan.

Global Medical Brigades (UW Madison)

University of Wisconsin - Madison is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. Each community receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are provided access to healthcare and volunteers deliver public health workshops. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends. nnIn conjunction with our Medical Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with economic development, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring.
