July 2012 - GMB Birmingham - Honduras

Volunteer Activity Description

Global Brigades is 'the world’s largest student-led global health and sustainable development organisation’, sending out thousands of volunteers every year.

Worldwide, there are currently 480 universities involved, with 11 universities in the UK offering brigades in 2011.

This year Global Brigades Birmingham are organising three different brigades:

1. Medical
2. Water
3. Microfinance

Global Brigades Birmingham is at an exciting point of expansion. Our aim is to develop each of our three programs this year and for them to have a holistic and beneficial impact in the communities we will work in.

Our medical brigade is presently the most established. Last July, 42 students from Birmingham went to Honduras and Ghana to carry out hands on medical work and had a fantastic time. We set up and ran a mobile clinic and pharmacy, did health promotion work, made homes more sanitary, went travelling after the brigade and much much more!

This year we want to repeat our success and maintain the impact we had on health and development in Honduran communities.

So if you're interested in sustainable development and hands-on clinical experience in Honduras, this is the brigade for you!
