Cornell Veterinary Internship to Peru, June 2023

Isabela's Message

Hi! I am a current freshman studying Animal Science at Cornell University on a pre-vet track. I intend to pursue a DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) after my undergraduate degree in Animal Science. I want to specialize in internal small animal medicine (cats and dogs) and also in work with exotic animals. In June, I will intern in Cusco, Peru through the affiliated organization VAW Global Health Alliances to shadow and gain experience in fast-paced mobile veterinary clinics, animal shelters, and animal sanctuaries. This trip would allow me to broaden my knowledge of healthcare abroad and assist in veterinary practices. Every donation would be super appreciated, thank you!!

¡Hola! Yo soy una estudiante de primer año de Ciencias Animales en Cornell University. Después de graduarme de Cornell University, deseo obtener un DVM (Doctor en Medicina Veterinaria). Quiero especializarme en medicina interna de animales pequeños (gatos y perros) y también trabajar con animales exóticos. En Junio, voy a participar en una pasantía en Cusco, Perú a través de la organización afiliada VAW Global Health Alliances para adquirir experiencia y observar como trabajan las clínicas veterinarias móviles, refugios de animales y santuarios de animales. Este viaje me permitirá ampliar mi conocimiento del cuidado de la salud afuera de los Estados Unidos y ayudar en prácticas veterinarias. Cada donación será supremamente apreciada, gracias!!

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the Cornell chapter as they lead a Veterinary Outreach Internship to Peru this upcoming summer! Interns will work in mobile clinics, where they will have the opportunity to take patient history, basic vital signs, shadow veterinarians, learn about the importance of different animals in locals lives and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW Global at Cornell will be opening up mobile veterinary clinics for local communities as well as assisting at local animal care facilities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2019, VAW Global treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2022. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
