Passionate About:

I am a Junior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville studying Psychology with a minor in Public Health on the Premed track. I want to pursue medicine because I am very passionate about women's health. Black women, especially, face so many disparities in healthcare, and I want to be a part of the change that needs to happen. I am also passionate about serving people in underdeveloped places because I believe that everyone is entitled to medical aid/ healthcare. This is why I want to be a part of the UTK Panama Medical Brigade. I feel like we take for granted the almost unlimited resources we have in the U.S, which is why I want to help those in Panama who may not have access to the same supplies and aid.

Volunteer Activity Message

Global Brigades offers 7-9 day Medical Brigades throughout the year in Honduras, Panama, Ghana, Guatemala and Greece. During a Medical Brigade, volunteers have the opportunity to take vitals and patient history in triage, shadow licensed doctors in medical consultations, and assist in a pharmacy under the direction of licensed pharmacists. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade approximately twice a year. Between brigades, our in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and to conduct Community Health Worker (CHW) trainings to empower local leaders to sustain a consistent level of healthcare. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends.
