Dear friends, family, and colleagues,

My name is Jason Yip and I am a recently graduated pre-dental student from the University of California, San Diego’s class of 2013.

I am excited to announce that I will be attending a trip to Panama this summer to expand my clinical skills in the dental field. This will be an amazing opportunity for me to strengthen my experience working with the underserved populations outside of the United States, as well as to apply prior clinical experience to directly provide free healthcare to those who need it. I plan to pursue a career in the dental field and this is the perfect opportunity to experience healthcare at the global level before applying to dental school in June.

UCSD’s Global Dental Brigade is organizing this weeklong trip to provide surgical, restorative, and preventative treatment to the residents of Panama. The majority of my time will be spent assisting and shadowing dentists along with providing preventative education to the local children. With this trip, I will have the chance to make a tangible impact on a community with limited healthcare, along with gaining a valuable learning experience in the international field of dentistry.

The trip is being funded and supplied entirely by donations and by the brigaders themselves. The cost for me individually will be a total of $1700, which includes room and board, travel expenses, and clinic provisions. I would greatly appreciate any contribution towards my experience in Central America. Not only will the trip be a unique opportunity for its volunteers, the funding will also invaluably benefit the residents of Panama.
