Passionate About:

I am a biology student at Cal Poly Pomona with the goal of being an oncologist. Most of my time is spent at either school or work, but with whatever free time I have, I like to give back to those who need it the most.

Some of my volunteer work is geared towards my career goal, but most of my previous, and hopefully my future, volunteer work is in many different areas. I believe that each person has the potential to help those in need whenever possible, even if it may be ten minutes to read to children or ten dollars to a small charity.

The world is a big place with an enormous amount of people, and when people chip in to help one another out, it creates a unity that can be passed on as long as it starts.

Volunteer Activity Message

Volunteers on the Medical and Dental Brigades will be working closely together to provide quality health initiatives to a community that otherwise has limited access to health care. Volunteers will spend three days in a community in order to optimize the amount of time patients are able to spend with the physicians and dentists. Each patient will receive a physician consultation, teeth cleaning and a fluoride treatment as well as have access to pap smears, prostate exams and restorative dental care as necessary. Volunteers will have the opportunity to take patient vitals, obtain patient history and current symptoms, shadow and assist licensed physicians and dentists, participate in preventative education, and fill prescriptions under a licensed pharmacist. Volunteers will become familiar with the prevalent health issues in their community and learn about how to prevent and treat those illnesses. These brigades provide each volunteer with the opportunity to make a tangible impact on a specific community while gaining real life experience in the field of international medicine and dentistry.

The individuals that will only be participating in the Med/Dental Brigade (June 22 - June 28) will fundraise $750 for the program contribution (+ airfare) on this initiative, while those participating in both the Pomona Water Brigade (June 16 - June 22) and Med/Dental Brigades (June 22 - June 28) will fundraise $1,400 for the program contribution (+ airfare) on the Water Brigade initiative [http://www.empowered.org/Pomona-Water-Brigade-June-2014-Honduras].
