Passionate About:

As young as twelve years old, I dreamed of becoming a Physician Assistant- I always appreciated this profound idea of being able to heal those who are going through arguably the worst times of their lives when they aren’t in good health; especially in the Emergency Departments where I personally saw family and friends suffer from pathological (particularly inherited) or traumatic ailments. While I am not officially a PA, I am currently an EMT and I feel as though Global Medical Brigades affords me the opportunity to satisfy my insatiable desire to help people through healthcare. Volunteering in Jinotega, Nicaragua would give me a wide spectrum of knowledge and offer a creative and thought-provoking aspect of global health that I would enjoy and allow me to use my current expertise in areas that need it most.

About Us

CUNY Lehman College is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. Each community receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are provided access to healthcare and volunteers deliver public health workshops. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends. nnIn conjunction with our Medical Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with economic development, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring.
