Volunteer Activity Description

Start Date: Jun 13, 2011 11:00 PM
End Date: Jun 19, 2011 11:00 PM

In June 2011, a group of student volunteers from the University of Washington will be traveling to conduct a "public health brigade". We will be reconstructing surveyed homes in most need, building stoves and chimneys, water-storage units (pilas), latrines, and concrete flooring. Working alongside the families and members of the local community, we will be teaching them the how and why of building these structures that drastically improve their quality of life by eliminating major sources of serious respiratory and gastro-intestinal illnesses. In this way, the community can take charge to improve their health. In addition, we will also provide a 20-minute health education program each day in the local schools.
