University of California Santa Barbara Water Brigades June 2015 Honduras

Kaytee's Message

Hello all! Firstly, thank you for clicking onto the fundraising page!

I have been granted the incredible opportunity to volunteer in a community in the wonderful country of Honduras. This program, organized by a group at the University of California, Santa Barbara, can guide me in a direction toward a career in healthcare, sustainability, and social equality. From June 15-21, I will be with other students and graduates from various campuses in helping to construct a system for a community to have access to clean water, as well as educate families on the importance of clean water to lead them into healthier lifestyles.

If you would like to support this cause, feel free to donate whatever amount you desire. I would not be able to express enough gratitude to all of you for taking the time to donate any amount you are able to give (seriously, every dollar counts. Oh yeah, donations are tax deductible). Volunteer Activity Description

Global Brigades offers 7-10 day Water Brigades throughout the year in Honduras and Ghana. Water Brigades's mission is to empower communities to access sufficient clean water through infrastructural development, water treatment, community leader training and education. Water Brigades volunteers assist in implementing clean water systems to prevent water-related illnesses in communities with limited access to clean water. One of the fundamental roadblocks to community development is lack of clean water. With a sufficient quantity of properly treated water, community members can cut off the connection between water and illness and ultimately live healthier, more productive lives. Volunteers work side-by-side with community members as well as with our in-country project technicians in all aspects of the water system\\\'s construction while learning about its design, functionality, and long-term sustainability.
