Volunteer Activity Message

University of Maryland Dental Brigades is a chapter of Global Brigades, the world\\\'s largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. This is the University of Maryland\\\'s first dental mission trip. We will be collaborating directly with the Global Brigades chapter at the University of Wisconsin, as well as more than 350 other university groups around the world to deliver and implement one of nine skill-based programs that benefit more than 130,000 Honduran and Panamanian community members annually.

We currently have three volunteer dentists who will accompany us to the Honduras and provide services to members of a community in need. This will also be a great volunteer opportunity for any interested pre-dental students looking for clinical, shadowing, and/or community service experience.

For this mission trip, we are seeking the donation of dental supplies (i.e. dental bibs, toothbrushes, floss, gloves, etc.) as well as any monetary donations toward the overall cost. Please see posted files for an informational pamphlet and a comprehensive list of all needed supplies for the trip.

Students participating in Medical/Dental Brigades empower rural communities in Honduras, Panama and Ghana by providing comprehensive health services to those with limited access to healthcare. We mobilize licensed medical professionals, community health workers, and thousands of student volunteers annually to facilitate much-needed Medical and Dental Brigades.

Dental Brigade volunteers provide urgent and preventive dental services in communities with limited access to healthcare. Each of our community partners receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are treated with fillings, cleanings and extractions, and are given dental hygiene workshops.
