Ball State University Water Brigade JAN 2016 NIC

Megan's Message

We are going to be part of the first ever Water Brigade to Nicaragua! I'm so excited to make some serious headway in the movement for the El Hatillo community to have clean water. Can you imagine not having that basic necessity? It hinders so many communities from growing, and causes illnesses. Being a part of a group that's working to change that is exciting. Another beautiful part of this is that the organization works to train the community so they can continue to use this system for years to come. I am going to have the opportunity to talk with and teach people in this community. We are going to work together and learn from each other. In the end there will be a happy community with healthy water.

Thank you for checking out my page! "With a sufficient quantity of properly treated water, community members can cut off the connection between water and illness and ultimately live healthier, more productive lives." Let's make this happen for the El Hatillo community!

Any and EVERY donation makes a difference! Please consider donating today. We greatly appreciate it!

Volunteer Activity Description

Global Brigades offers 7-day Water Brigades throughout the year in Honduras and Nicaragua. Water Brigades' mission is to empower communities to access sufficient clean water through infrastructural development, water treatment, community leader training and education. Water Brigades volunteers assist in implementing clean water systems to prevent water-related illnesses in communities with limited access to clean water. One of the fundamental roadblocks to community development is lack of clean water. With a sufficient quantity of properly treated water, community members can cut off the connection between water and illness and ultimately live healthier, more productive lives. Volunteers work side-by-side with community members as well as with our in-country project technicians in all aspects of the water system's construction while learning about its design, functionality, and long-term sustainability.
