Monica Brizuela

Passionate About:

Hello friends and family! As a pre-med student at SFSU, studying Biology concentration in physiology, my passion for medicine and learning about health disparities have grown immensely. This early June, I am excited to go on my second medical brigade to Panama through a nonprofit organization called Global Brigades. Along with my fellow brigaders, we have the amazing opportunity to shadow doctors, perform triage where we take the patient’s symptoms and vitals, interact with them, and facilitate educational workshops in a rural community with limited access to healthcare. As a firm believer of equal and affordable access to healthcare for everyone, I am eager to serve and help the people in Panama but only with your help! I will forever be grateful for your donations, at any amount, to support an underserved community in Panama, the Global Brigade family, and my passion for helping others. If you would like to donate, click the red button that says “Donate”, choose my name, Monica Brizuela, enter the desired amount and your information. If you choose to donate using a credit/debit card there will be a small transaction fee. However, if you choose e-check, there will be no transaction fee but a routing and account number is needed. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me! Once again, I thank you all so much for your contributions!

About Us

San Francisco State University is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. Each community receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are provided access to healthcare and volunteers deliver public health workshops. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends. nnIn conjunction with our Medical Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with economic development, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring.
