Passionate About:

My main passion is studying barriers to health in marginalized or minority groups, particularly Asian Americans and Asian American women. An aspiring physician, I have a great deal of experience shadowing doctors in hospital systems across the U.S., and this summer I interned with a medical fundraising start-up to gain exposure to the financial aspect of healthcare. However, I would like to expand my knowledge of healthcare now to economic/political policy and the impact of microfinance on a broader scale. I have started this pursuit by commenting on U.S. healthcare legislation through the Yale Journal of Medicine and Law, but I think hands-on experience is necessary. Global Brigades is making that possible, but I need your help!
I am also a dancer and I love to ski.

Yale Microfinance Brigade 2012

Natalia's Message

I am a current sophomore undergraduate student at Yale University, a Psychology major, and an aspiring Physician. I am also a dancer of 16 years, with training in classical and modern Indain dance, ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical/contemporary, and hip hop. My main interest is health barriers to marginalized or minority groups, both in medicine and in national political and economic strategy. At Yale, I work with Insight/NAPAWF, a group affiliated with the national organization to raise awareness about Asian American women's barriers to health and human rights. I also work with APAMSA, a national organization aimed at raising a voice regarding the unimpressive condition of Asian and Pacific American health and aid given to these groups in the U.S. I'm very interested in the intersection of healthcare and economic strategy, which is the gap that microfinance is filling around the globe today. As a blogger for the Yale Journal of Medicine and Law, I raise discussions on current health policy in the U.S. and abroad, comparing and contrasting the effects of legislation across borders on the grassroots healthcare issues. I really want to help Global Brigades this winter in Honduras so that I can experience the possibilities of microfinance in global aid, learn the techniques involved, and then apply them on my own aid excursions in the future.

Volunteer Activity Description

Fundraise with your Global Business Brigades chapter on campus to meet the minimum $1,500 USD annual chapter contribution.

The annual chapter contribution directly supports the Community Investment Fund, which enables year-round economic development in partner communities carried out by our local teams. The Community Investment Fund is a critical component to GB’s Sustainable Transition Plan. Once a partner community has met specific health and economic development goals and brigades are no longer necessary, GB transitions projects fully to the community and offers follow-up with our local staff.

The more you fundraise, the more impact we make together!

BUSINESS Suggested donation amount: $25
