VCU Medical Outreach trip to Vietnam, July 2017

Nga's Message

Hello to all my friends and family!

I have told a few of you already, but for those who have not yet been announced, I am very lucky to have an opportunity to go on the Medical Service trip to Vietnam this summer with Volunteer Around the World (VAW) at VCU.

It is honor and excitement for me personally because I finally got a chance to do what I've always dreamt of. This service trip will be even more meaningful to me because I will be helping the people from my home country! Because I have already witnessed how hard it is for underserved people there to get quality medical treatments, I know this trip will definitely make a big difference in their lives and how grateful I am to be part of it.

Below is a little detail of my trip.

- My team and I will be traveling to Ho Chi Minh City (aka Saigon), Vietnam from July 25th to August 8th.

- We wil be setting up mobile clinics in the suburb area of Saigon where we will provide medical diagnoses and basic medications needed to the people who are less fortunate to afford health insurance. We will also be holding small classes to educate the villagers and their kids about basic hygiene and how to avoid hygiene related illnesses.

- The program cost of this trip is $1,850, which pays for safe housing, staffing, doctors, and most importantly the medications for the clinics.

Since this trip is very meaningful to me, I would really appreciated if you could help me out - either your prayers for a safe trip, or your encouragement, or financial support. Anything from you all will mean the world to me and I am very very very appreciated for every one of you and your time and your generosity!

Love,
Nga.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the VCU chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to Vietnam this upcoming summer! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW at VCU will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Vietnam.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2016, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2017. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of April 20th
