Nourish at UGA 2015 Project

Project Description:
This year, Nourish at UGA is partnering with RASD to invest in a spring box installation to insulate an open water source in Nkokonjeru, Uganda. This project will provide clean water to the local community, thus promoting the basic tenants of health and sanitation in Nkokonjeru.

Project Details:
Nourish International is a nonprofit that believes everyone should have an equal opportunity to the basic necessities of life. Every year, Nourish Chapters partner with an international organization that is serving their local community. The UGA Chapter is partnering with Rural Agency for Sustainable Development, or RASD. RASD will install a spring box to insulate an open water source in Nkokonjeru, Uganda. Based on correspondence, this community lacks a comprehensive knowledge of the basic tenants of health and sanitation because they do not have access to them. Their water source is polluted with run-off, fecal matter, etc. In this endeavor, we hope to not only provide clean water, but also to help teach members of the community how to use and maintain the spring box, thus ensuring the sustainability of this project.

Partner Background:
Rural Agency for Sustainable Development (RASD) is an NGO based in Nkokonjeru, Uganda that was founded in 2000. It also serves communities in the wider Buikwe, Kayunga and Mukono Districts around Nkokonjeru. RASD has received broad support from the community through private donations and volunteer efforts from groups like Nourish International as well as from the local government of the Nkokonjeru Town Council and Mayor.

What Your Donation Can Do:
The money we raise this year will go to materials specific to the springbox and to our overall fundraising goal of $2,200. The materials include: truck of clay, truck of hard core stones, truck of tip sand, truck of lake sand, truck of aggregate stones, plastic, cement, water-proof cement, 3 horse pipe, foundation excavation labor, pipes, corners/ elbows, wire mesh, rebar, interlocking bricks, paint, and supporting timber reinforcement.
