Public Health to Panama

Thank you so much for your interest in Panama's Public Health Program! We are thrilled to announce that beginning in 2014, Public Health will be launched as a full program in Panama, open to accepting all interested volunteers!

Whether you are a former volunteer interested in continuing your impact, a Global Brigades Chapter with extra funds, or an individual who is passionate about bringing public health infrastructure to rural communities, we hope you will considering partnering with us while we work hard to ignite this exciting new program.

Where we have been:
With the support of Medical/Dental volunteers, we have been working over the past two years to construct Composting Latrines for single families and local elementary schools. With this project we are striving to decrease the incidence of common illnesses that stem from a lack of proper sanitation infrastructure. So far, we have been constructing composting latrines alongside families in 3 different communities and have completed larger scale latrines for 3 elementary schools, but the waiting list for latrines is still very long!

Where we are going:
With the help of donors and volunteers, we are excited to further our impact by continuing with our current projects and also expanding to include new projects.

Beginning in 2014 we hope to begin implementing additional projects to further address community needs. Some of the projects we are currently evaluating are designed to address the following:

-Improved access and quality of water
-Improved waste management solutions
-Decreased skin and respiratory infections through a variety of in-home infrastructure projects
