Richard: Ghana Referral Patient

Richard was identified by Oklahoma University\\\\\\\'s Medical/ Dental, Public Health Hybrid Brigade to Ghana in December 2013 during their clinic at Srafa Aboano. Richard, who had an injured leg, which was not properly taken care of resulting in a severe case of gangrene.

Oklahoma did an amazing job in gathering together 330 GHC at the clinic site so he could immediately be sent to the hospital to be checked out further. Richard does not have health insurance but due to the severity of the situation, Global Brigades and Oklahoma Brigaders referred him to the hospital immediately.

His mother and father returned from the hospital and said the bill was approximately 500 GHC more than what the group had already given. Oklahoma gave us the remaining cedis they had in country, 340 GHC. We will be hearing more information soon on what Richard\\\\\\\'s care will exactly entail, if his leg can be saved or if a surgery is needed to amputate, as well as the exact amount of the current outstanding bill.
