Ryan's Message

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and for your interest in learning more about this mission. Let me share a bit about myself and why I'm committed to joining the team headed to Peru.

I'm currently a sophomore at the University of South Carolina, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in molecular neuroscience with a focus on an accelerated pre-medical track. My involvement in diverse academic and community organizations like the Capstone Scholars program, Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, Gamecocks for Israel student organization, and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians has deeply shaped my journey.

My dedication to serving others has merged seamlessly with my passion for science, leading me down the path toward a career in medicine. My ultimate aspiration is to specialize as a cranial neurosurgeon and establish a practice dedicated to providing life-saving surgeries for underserved populations, offering vital care to those who typically lack access to such critical treatments.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the University of South Carolina chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship to Peru this upcoming Summer! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! VAW Global at University of South Carolina will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2023, VAW Global treated over 17,500 patients and we aspire to treat over 20,000 in 2024! One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
