  • About
The Salisbury group will be traveling to Ghana from June 5-16, 2019. As a Global Education Squad the group will partner with an underserved school in the community of Ho to improve educational outcomes. The group will stay at our private and safe home-base accommodations in Ho where our local professional staff provide all transportation, food, lodging, and activities. Each afternoon the group will enjoy guided cultural activities in the surrounding area as well as exchanges and soccer matches with the RIGHT TO DREAM ACADEMY. On the weekend the group will take an overnight excursion to Cape Coast, Elmira Castle, and Kakum National Park.

Volunteer Activity Description
VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY: The St. George Anglican Primary School was established in 1963 by the Anglican Church to provide quality and affordable education to the people of Ho Ahoe, Glala and Bankoe area. There are 18 teachers and 366 students at the school from kindergarten to 6th grade. Despite the tremendous efforts of various volunteer associations to improve the conditions at the school, there are many issues that the students and staff deal with on a daily basis, including lack of bookshelves, broken classroom furniture, and no place for backpacks. Volunteers will assist with these issues in order to improve the quality of education at the school and promote access to equitable education.

VOLUNTEER PROJECT: Your squad will work on the construction of equipment and furniture needed various classrooms in the school. You will build bookshelves, repair classroom furniture, and install hooks for the student’s backpacks. You will be responsible in every aspect of the execution of this project! The first day volunteering will be spent understanding the classrooms, meeting the students and staff, and get an overview of how you will construct the bookshelves from the local carpenter who will also oversee the project. Working throughout the week to complete these projects will make a profound and lasting impact in the community! Not only will you create a better learning environment in the school to improve the quality of education for the students, you will cultivate positive relationships with all members of the community through your service and cultural enrichment activities.
