Sarah Lee

Connecticut

Passionate About:

Sarah is a sophomore in Branford, majoring in History of Art, while pursuing her studies alongside the pre-medicine track. She is from the suburbs of Long Island, New York. As of right now, she aspires to be a missionary pediatrician who travels the world to serve and heal others. She most definitely loves flowers and small pups. Besides VAW, Sarah is involved in the United Church of Westville and Global Medical Missions Alliance (GMMA), Yale Undergraduate of Connecticut Hospice (YUCH) and she is also involved in various research projects throughout the year.

I know firsthand how much influence a volunteer can yield when a beloved one gets sick or passes away. When a patient is distressed and hopeless about his/her circumstances, the mere smile of a volunteer can go such a long way for that patient. A single volunteer can lift a patient’s spirits or lift even the family’s morale. I hope to learn more about how to love and care for the patients through VAW.

Volunteer Activity Message

Join the Yale chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to DR this upcoming Spring! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW at Yale will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in DR.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2017, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2018. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of January 4, 2018
