About Us

George Washington University is a chapter of Global Brigade aiming to improve access to healthcare along with implementing sustainable health systems in remote, rural, and under-resourced communities. The students are traveling virtually to various countries to aid in primary health care along with other health screenings. For each clinic, the students along with other health professionals will be immersed from triage to discharge while following the local physician. For this upcoming brigade, we will be visiting Honduras, Ghana, and Greece with each country having a different healthcare system. Each clinic will enable the students to obtain important skills to be utilized in and out of the healthcare setting.

George Washington Medical Chapter Fundraiser - AEDs for Urban Clinics in Honduras

Global Brigades offers 7-9 day Medical Brigades throughout the year in Honduras, Panama, Ghana, Guatemala, Greece and Belize. During a Medical Brigade, volunteers have the opportunity to take vitals and patient history in triage, shadow licensed doctors in medical consultations, and assist in a pharmacy under the direction of licensed pharmacists. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade approximately twice a year. Between brigades, our in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and to conduct Community Health Worker (CHW) trainings to empower local leaders to sustain a consistent level of healthcare. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends. For this fundraiser, the Medical Chapter at George Washington University is coming together to organize a fundraiser in an effort to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and donate it to one of the Urban Clinics operated by Global Brigades in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. With this donation, medical professionals at the Urban Clinic will have the necessary tools to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, either staff members or daily clinic patients, and potentially save lives. We appreciate every single effort and donation towards this cause!
