  • About
Summer Programs is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. Each community receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are provided access to healthcare and volunteers deliver public health workshops. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends.

In conjunction with our Medical Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with economic development, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring. Medical Immersion Program July 2023 Ghana

Volunteer Activity Description
Join us in Ghana this summer for a Medical Immersion unlike any other. Participants will gain a new appreciation for global healthcare while spending two weeks shadowing medical doctors in a traditional hospital setting in Ghana. This program is focused on providing in-depth, clinical experience to medical students interested in global healthcare.

In partnership with two hospitals and a health clinic in the Central Region of Ghana, you will learn from a range of qualified healthcare professionals and participate in the shadowing of various procedures and surgeries. Unlike typical Medical Brigades, the Ghana Medical Immersion program will provide participants with an in-depth look into acute and severe diseases in the hospital setting, along with the treatment procedures characteristic of in-patient care in rural Ghana. You will get the chance to collaborate with Ghanaian doctors to discuss patient pathologies and develop individualized treatment plans.
