VAW at University of California, Irvine, Medical Outreach

  • About
Volunteers Around the World (VAW) is an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) devoted to improving the standard of living for those that live in some of the most poverty stricken communities of the world. VAW wants to provide communities with access to medical treatment, medication, nutritional security, clean water, and health education.

    Mission
Our focus is to enhance community infrastructure through improved education, access to more advanced medical treatment, increased economic opportunities, and other community based initiatives.

The work of Volunteers Around the World is done by volunteers who donate their time, money and energies to the welfare of fellow human beings. It is through the efforts of these selfless individuals and working in conjunction with community members and leaders that the world will become a healthier and better place to live.

UC Irvine Medical Outreach trip to Panama, June 2020

Volunteer Activity Description
Join the UC Irvine chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to Panama this upcoming Summer! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW at UC Irvine will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Panama.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2019, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2020. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of [March 2-6].
