Volunteer Activity Description

Start Date: Mar 17, 2012 11:00 PM
End Date: Mar 24, 2012 10:00 PM

Global Architecture Brigade volunteers from DePaul University will spend 7 days in Honduras building a school for 7th-9th grade students in the Santa Rosa community. Construction of the school comes after a design contest in which GAB chapters participated to create a sustainable architecture solution to a problem faced within the community. During the brigade, volunteers will work side by side with local members of the Santa Rosa community to complete a variety of building tasks, such as pouring concrete floors, building walls, or constructing the frame for the roof. A GB coordinator will be working with the students as well, offering instruction and insight throughout the building process. Once the Santa Rosa school is completed, the children of this community will have the chance to further their formal education by about 50%. Architecture Brigades’ focus on projects that benefit entire communities - such as schools, health centers, and community meeting spaces - allows volunteers to build on the Global Brigades mission of holistic sustainable development.
