University of Texas at San Antonio Dental Internship to Peru, June 2024

Aliyah's Message

Hi everyone! As I have looked into possible professions I would like to do for the rest of my life, dentistry stuck out to me the most. Those of you who know me know I love partaking in activities that require a lot of hands on activity whether it's sitting down building Lego sets for hours, drawing/painting or playing tennis. This is a major reason why I was drawn to dentistry. I've come across an amazing opportunity and organization that allows me to travel to Peru to provide free dental care for families and individuals who may not be able to afford it. This opportunity will allow me to learn more about the dental field along with allowing me to gain hands on experience. Not only that but I get to lend out a hand and make a difference in these individuals' lives by being a part of this opportunity. It would mean a lot to me if you would help me make this step in my future career by donating to help fund for my trip. Even if it's a dollar I would greatly appreciate it. You will not only help me reach my goal for the trip, but you will also be making a difference for these individuals in Peru.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the University of Texas at San Antonio on their Dental Outreach Internship to Peru this summer! interns will have the opportunity to learn about various dental procedures, such as cleanings, restorations, fillings, and extractions, learn about the current healthcare system in Peru and teach a public health class, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW Global at the University of Texas at San Antonio will be opening up mobile dental clinics for local communities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing full dental clinics and primary care medical clinics to the less fortunate. In 2023, VAW Global treated over 17,500 patients and we aspire to treat over 20,000 in 2024! One of the things that make our dental mobile clinics unique is that we are able to perform multiple procedures including fillings, restorations, cleanings and extractions at the mobile clinic. Fundraising for supplies and medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
