Passionate About:

Most people's career path changes many times until they decide what they would like to pursue for the rest of their life, for me it did not. I have always been passionate about dance and known since I was a young girl that I wanted to help people. Dance has always played a large role in my life at is embedded in the culture of my country. Growing up on the island of Cyprus I have had the opportunity to start dancing at a very young age, as well as witness the effects it has had on both myself as a learner but also my community. Dance has allowed me to grow as a person and to gain confidence. The physical movement of dance gives you an understanding of your body and unlocks who you are, while showing who you can become. Many see dance as an art form, but I see it as much more. I want to use dance both to illustrate the beauty of movement and to show others how it can improve their lives, help them define their identity and show them how important they are, no matter what difficulties they have to face. I aim to help others realize positive change, because I believe that dance is that powerful.

I am extremely interested in increasing my pedagogical research in education. I want to further expand my knowledge of child development, particularly with dance, by looking into the role movement plays in cognitive development and how that affects a child's growth. How does dance help build communicative skills that other types of learning does not? Something that I would like to do in my future is to be able to fuse dance into the traditional classroom, because I feel strongly that it helps cognitive development. I am confident that this summer's movement exchange program will provide essential practical experience and knowledge that I can explore with further research. As I believe that dance implemented in a learning structure will help develop a sustainable relationship between teachers, students and the community. As well as becoming a place for social equality and a place of acknowledgement of others. Thinking about the future something that I would like to pursue is educational policy in which I can implement change and introduce a curriculum in which movement is built into the traditional classroom.
