University Of Maryland College Park Medical Outreach trip to Peru, May 2019

Daniela's Message

Being at college students entails being exposed to many educational enriching opportunities! This year I've chosen to become a volunteer around the world! A program partnered with the University of Maryland that facilitate students and doctors around the world to join together in order to achieve the common goal of providing medical care. This year's trip is to Peru, a South American country, in which medical care may not be as accessible as in the United States or other wealthier and more accessible countries. Being a part of this program is an amazing opportunity to build and learn from Doctors and Nurses around the world. However, opportunities such as studying abroad or volunteer activities entail financial obligations, that as a student, as hard to satisfy. I ask for your help today, so that becoming a volunteer for the patients in need may be a more accomplishable goal. I thank you for your time, attention, and consideration.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the University of Maryland College Park chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach trip to Peru this upcoming summer! Volunteers will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW at University of Maryland College Park will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of volunteering with VAW is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2018, VAW treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2019. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of February 18-22
