Passionate About:

I am passionate about advocating and helping those with disabilities and those that are less fortunate than myself. My younger sister has Down syndrome and it has given me so much joy and fulfillment working to support her and others like her. Also, I have a long-standing passion for the sciences and medicine and currently am a Phlebotomist and look forward to becoming a EMT this summer. Finally, I am passionate about the Spanish language as I think language has the power to unite so many people and spread the importance of learning about new cultures. I hope to become a developmental pediatrician in the US and work primarily with people with Down syndrome that do not speak English to bring medicine and research into one of the most marginalized and least advocated for groups of people in the country. Further marrying my passions together, I am beyond excited to embark on this journey with VAW and see the world and help others through a lens I have never experienced before!

UC Boulder Medical Internship to Guatemala, May, 2022

Elise's Message

I feel so fortunate to visit the beautiful country of Peru with such a great group of people from CU! I feel that I will
learn so much from the medical professionals we will be working alongside with at the pop-up clinics, as well as learning about the culture and condition from the Peruvian people we will have the pleasure of staying with. I cannot wait to apply what I gain from this experience to my life at home and especially as someone who is looking to join the Peace Corps, I can see this being a very enriching trip. Any monetary help in order to support my journey there would be so greatly appreciated!

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the UC Boulder chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship to Peru this upcoming Summer! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW Global at UC Boulder will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2019, VAW Global treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2020. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.

**Note: airfare goal will be updated once flights are purchased, tentatively the week of [Flight Purchase January 10-23, 2022]
