Butler University Medical Internship to Peru, May 2022

Gabi's Message

Hi Everyone!

This is my third year studying at Butler University, with hopes towards graduate school to become a Physician Assistant. This upcoming May, I have accepted the opportunity to attend a medical mission trip in Peru, and I’m looking for a little help to get there.

The Medical Outreach Internship is a two-week experience in Cusco, Peru. During my trip, I will work side by side with patients and doctors through mobile clinics and get the hands-on experience of triaging and treating patients through the experience of a new culture. This trip is extremely important to me and I am so excited to have the opportunity to give back to a community that deserves the most basic care and medications that I am able to provide.

In order for this trip to be possible, I am responsible for raising $1,995. This cost includes medications, medical tools, housing, and on-site transportation. Volunteer Activity Description

Join the Butler University chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship to Peru this upcoming Summer! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW Global at Butler University will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Peru.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2019, VAW Global treated over 35,000 patients and we aspire to treat over 45,000 in 2020. One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
