My name is Alejandra, 3rd year architecture major at UC Berkeley. I’m from Oakland, CA. and first generation to attend college. Being raised in a community were resources were limited has encourage and motivate me to get involve in programs where I am able to improve my community’s environment as well as improve students education. I have volunteer in Rebuilding Oakland Together and I am also a board member at Chabot Space and Science Center. I am a person that is driven me to pursue higher education and help my own community. Helping others is my main goal, that's why I have decided to volunteer in GAB to help communities in Honduras who have limited resources. In GAB, I will be helping low income communities with the construction of a public school, as well practice architecture.

Volunteer Activity Message

Architecture Brigade volunteers design sustainable architecture projects, and construct them during a 7 day Architecture Brigade in Honduras. Once a university chapter expresses interest, they will be provided with a briefing on ongoing construction projects and upcoming design contests. Chapters that participate in the design contest to provide architectural solutions to a problem faced within the community will have a limited time to submit their design, competing against and possibly working with other university chapters. The local community in Honduras then selects the design(s) that best fits their needs. The construction of the project is then completed by all Architecture Brigade chapters, whether or not they participated in the designing. Student volunteers can get involved with an upcoming Architecture Brigade by joining a local student chapter on their college campus, or creating a new chapter and recruiting a group of students.
