Ogechukwu's Message

Hello everyone, thank you for visiting my page! I just wanted to share two of my passions that inspired me to apply for and now participate in this initiative.
I am passionate about creating opportunities for increased accessibility regarding healthcare. Despite our well-advanced healthcare system, equity remains a large issue within America's healthcare system. I want to use the knowledge I have already acquired and yet to learn to help create more accessible and affordable healthcare options for individuals in and outside of the U.S., especially because my parents are a product of an under-resourced healthcare system.
Participating in this year's VAW internship in Vietnam will give me the hands-on and immersive opportunity to create a foundation of potential tools for change that can alleviate the disparities experienced by these countries in the context of holistic healthcare.
I'm also very passionate about travel. By directly inputting myself in new places, I get the refreshing opportunity to gain a new understanding of different cultures. Participating in this program will provide the stepping stones to fulfill my life-long goal of increasing my cultural sensitivity. This is essential within nursing, my future profession since it makes you more conscious of your biases and more willing to offer optimal care despite communication or cultural differences.

Volunteer Activity Description

Join the University of San Francisco California team B chapter as they lead a Medical Outreach Internship to Vietnam this upcoming Summer! interns will work in mobile medical clinics, where they will have the opportunity to intake patients, conduct public health surveys, take vitals, shadow local physicians, work in the pharmacy, teach education classes, and much more! If you’re interested in joining, contact us for more information!

VAW Global at University of San Francisco California team B will be opening up mobile medical clinics for local communities during their time in Vietnam.

One of the most exciting and important parts of interning with VAW Global is bringing medication to the less fortunate. In 2023, VAW Global treated over 17,500 patients and we aspire to treat over 20,000 in 2024! One of the things that make our mobile clinics unique is that we not only triage and diagnose patients, but also provide them with the basic medications needed. Fundraising for medications is a huge part of creating a successful mobile clinic to help the local communities with effective care.
